In ASD Lighting’s latest investment we brought the foamed-in-place gasket facility in-house. Refining our processes to decrease production times.
Two industrial robots (Ben and Jerry) are at the heart of this new bespoke production cell, overseen by 2 highly trained members of staff. The first robot picks components for foaming from mobile storage units and accurately places them in jigs for gasketing by the second robot.
This second robot initially prepares the gasket path by high voltage plasma, which aids chemical bonding. Then the PU foamed in place gasket bead is laid in place. The curing process can be accelerated by the application of a very fine fog of water. After the gasketing process is complete the first robot then returns the finished components to the storage units and replenishes the jigs.
